Looking for a muscular vehicle, one that makes plenty of noise, looks intimidating, and most importantly can carry the whole family wherever it needs to go? I've got the answer for you: the Dodge Durango. It may not be the most modern vehicle currently available on the market, and I'll admit that some of its figures are a bit scary on paper (especially fuel consumption). Nevertheless, the Dodge Durango has plenty of qualities to offer, and it delivers an emotional driving experience you simply won't find anywhere else.
The current generation of the Dodge Durango has been on the market since 2011, which is practically an eternity in the automotive industry. As a reminder, some cars were still equipped with cassette players back then. That said, the brand's designers have done an excellent job keeping the SUV fresh over the years. For 2026, the Durango adds several updates, including a Blacktop Redline package for the R/T trim.
Lineup and pricing
It's fair to say there's no shortage of choice in the 2026 Dodge Durango lineup. In fact, the American automaker keeps adding new trims and powertrains since its arrival on the market. So don't be surprised if more versions are added after this article is published. For now, the 2026 Durango lineup consists of six models, with pricing ranging from $62,890 to $145,427. Each version offers several standalone options that make the model even more appealing.
Category and competition
Even though the Dodge Durango seems to sit between two segments, it is classified among midsize three-row SUVs. It's by far the most performance-oriented model in its class, and it offers towing capacity that easily surpasses the competition.
Rivals: Chevrolet Traverse, Ford Explorer, GMC Acadia, Honda Pilot, Hyundai Palisade, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Kia Telluride, Mazda CX-90, Nissan Pathfinder, Subaru Ascent, Toyota Highlander, Toyota Grand Highlander, Volkswagen Atlas
Design and technology
The Dodge Durango may not be the most modern vehicle out there, but that's not an issue in its case. In fact, the model is so unique that its design has become almost timeless. Its current look is still very appealing, especially thanks to its headlights, which give the impression they're about to bite.
The interior feels a bit dated, but the dashboard design blends well with the rest. The infotainment system is very user-friendly and intuitive, with smooth navigation. The Durango also ranks among the most comfortable vehicles in its category.
Performance
At the time of writing, the SUV offers three engine options. It starts with the classic 3.6-litre V6 producing 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Next comes the legendary 5.7-litre HEMI V8 with 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. At the top of the range sits the supercharged 6.2-litre V8, delivering an impressive 710 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque. A 6.4-litre V8 is also expected to return soon. Regardless of the version you choose, an 8-speed automatic transmission comes standard, and all-wheel drive is included across the lineup.
Weak points
I won't hide the fact that fuel consumption is high—borderline excessive with some versions. Pricing can also climb quickly if you get carried away with options.
Strengths
It's a versatile vehicle that never fails to turn heads. It offers multiple powertrains and a wide, diverse lineup.
Signature element
The Dodge Durango is bold, aggressive, and incredibly fun to drive. The Jailbreak model is a future collector's item.
Final word
There's simply no other vehicle like the Dodge Durango, and there likely never will be again due to increasingly strict regulations. It's a rare gem destined to disappear—one to enjoy while it's still around. The next generation of the American SUV is on the way, and there's a strong chance it will be very different from the current model.
