What's New for the 2022 Model?
For 2022, there are two new engine options available. The 4xe model is the first Wrangler to boast a hybrid powertrain, while the new gas V8 engine on the Rubicon trim takes the car's off-road performance to the next level.
Under the Hood: Gas and Diesel
The base Wrangler is well equipped with a 3.6L V6 pushing out 285 horsepower to part-time all-wheel drive, with a choice of a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed auto. A 3.0L turbodiesel option delivers 260 horsepower and 422lb-ft of torque, while the aforementioned V8 delivers an amazing 470hp.
The 4xe Hybrid Option
The Wrangler may be late to the hybrid party, but the new powertrain makes up for any delay. Pairing a 2.0L turbo gas engine with dual electric motors, the combined output is an impressive 375 horsepower with 470lb-ft of torque. This powertrain delivers a 0-100kmh acceleration figure of just six seconds, pleasing performance fans, while the 40km all-electric range combines with a fuel rating of 4.7L / 100km to produce a highly economical option for city driving.
Infotainment Options
All Wrangler models are fitted with a touchscreen to handle infotainment duties, with a size of either 7" or 8.4" depending on the trim level. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both included as standard, while in-built navigation is an available option. The standard eight-speaker audio system can be upgraded to a premium nine-speaker Alpine rig, while off-roaders can add a forward camera for better visibility immediately ahead of the wheels.
Advanced Safety Systems
The 2022 Wrangler is packed with active safety systems, with the key available highlights including:
