High-End Gas Engines
Even at the entry level of the range, the 2022 Grand Cherokee packs a serious punch under the hood. Matching a 3.5L V6 engine to an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, the healthy output of 293 horsepower and 260lb-ft of torque is a match for any task.
However, to really power the Grand Cherokee over challenging terrains, upgrading the engine to a 5.7L Hemi V8 increases the output to 357 horsepower and 390lb-ft, taking the model into new levels of performance on the highway and wilderness trail alike. And not only does the V8 increase the acceleration and excitement of driving, it also means a a maximum towing capacity of 3,273kg, greatly increasing the versatility of the vehicle.
Unbelievable Hybrid Power
But that's not the end of the powertrain options. New for 2022, the Grand Cherokee now offers a gas / electric hybrid option under the label of the Grand Cherokee 4xe. This configuration marries a 2.0L four-cylinder turbo gas engine with two electric motors to deliver a combined output of 375 horsepower and 470lb-ft, possible the most powerful hybrid SUV yet launched on Canadian territory.
But sheer power aside, the Grand Cherokee 4xe also provides some excellent fuel economy figures with an estimated rating of just 4.1L / 100km, set alongside an all-electric range of up to 40km.
Upscale Interior with Advanced Infotainment
It's not only in the powertrain area that the 2022 Grand Cherokee has received a major makeover. The interior has also been drawn more upscale by the addition of multiple digital displays, quilted leather seat upholstery, and open-pore wood trims throughout the cabin.
The entry level models boast an 8.4" infotainment touchscreen including smartphone compatibility as standard through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with higher trims increasing the screen real estate to fully 10.1". Higher trims also benefit from in-dash navigation complete with real-time over the air traffic and weather updates, a 10.3" high-definition TFT digital instrument display, and an extra 10.3" screen directly ahead of the front passenger seat.
Advanced Active Safety and Driver Assist Technology
And the final area where the Grand Cherokee has been upgraded is with the generous suite of active safety and driver assistance features supplied across the range. Key highlights include:
