2021 Ram 1500 Classic | Milton

The Ram 1500 continues to race ahead in the half-ton truck market, upping performance levels and feature sets with every passing model year. But if you don't need to be on the cutting edge, the Classic version of this popular pickup gives you plenty of power and capability without all the latest gadgets and tech features.

What does the 2021 version of the Ram 1500 Classic offer to demanding pickup buyers? Read on to find out.

New for 2021

Most of the 2021 Classic line has been carried over unchanged from the highly successful 2020 model. However, there's a new off-road package available for the Warlock trim. Sold as the All-Terrain Package, the optional upgrade gives a one-inch suspension lift, better approach and departure angles, and tougher heavy-duty shocks at the rear.

Design

Classic by name, classic by nature. The 1500 has always been a great-looking truck, offering just the right mix of traditional sturdy power softened by a few modern touches. If you want a truck that shows it means business, the 1500 Classic won't disappoint.

Two Performance Options

Compared to the latest version of the 1500, the Classic has fewer engine choices at only two. However, they're both highly capable options which between them can handle any task you require. The base trim has a 3.6L V6 gas engine pushing out 305 horsepower and 269lb-ft of torque, routed to front-wheel or all-wheel drive via a nine-speed automatic transmission.

While that base level is a match for most jobs, moving up to the 5.7L HEMI V8 takes performance to a new level. The horsepower is pushed up to 395hp, and the torque reaches a high of 410lb-ft.

These engine options turn in some highly creditable capability figures too. The maximum payload capacity is a useful 857kg with both powertrains, while the V8 engine is capable of hauling a huge 7,246kg in trailer weight.

Infotainment

One of the main selling points of the Classic is its pared down use of technology, and at the base level the truck definitely has a spartan interior. However, move up to the higher trim levels and infotainment features start to appear, including a generous 8.4" touchscreen running the powerful and user-friendly Uconnect software. On these models, full smartphone integration is provided by Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while in-built navigation is also a standard feature. The system also includes theft alarm technology which delivers a notification to your smartphone if the truck is started without you inside.

Safety Features

The 1500 Classic is a solid and reliable truck with a rugged build. Its physical safety is enhanced by the addition of active safety features, with key highlights including:

  • Electronic stability control.
  • Trailer brake control.
  • Rear camera.
  • Rear parking assistance system.
